Preliminary English Test (PET)

The second level of Cambridge University English Examinations is the PET. This exam validates a pre-intermediate level of English and represents the next step on the way to level three, the First Certificate of English Test (FCE).

The exam consists of three parts:

  • Reading and Writing (1hour 30mins)

5 questions: reading comprehension questions about a text (25% of the mark)

3 questions: reformulation of sentences phrases, guided writing, creative writing (25% of the mark)

  • Listening (35/40 minutes)

Candidates listen to authentic dialogues and conversations for specific information. (25% of the mark)

  • Speaking (10-12 minutes)

Candidates are tested in pairs by 2 examiners.

They need to answer questions about themselves and talk with each other, using documents to help them. (25% of the mark)

The teachers have tested the pupils in class and in the mock exams and will decide if your child is ready or not to take the PET exam. However, should you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact Mme Helen THIRTLE LEOTARD (Head of the Languages Department).

EXAM DATE: Wednesday  17th June 2020 (morning)

The exact times of the exam will be given to you at a later date.

EXAM VENUE: EPBI 1 or 2 on 17/06/2020.

ENROLMENT DEADLINE: Wednesday 13th May 2020.

DOCUMENTS REQUIRED :        – Completed reply coupon and payment online.
